The engineering of the Whiskey Store Buildings involved a delicate balance of structural integrity and environmental control. To maintain the quality of the whiskey, the structure requires precise temperature and humidity control, typically achieved through specialised insulation, ventilation systems, and storage facilities. The architectural design also plays a crucial role, ensuring adequate space for storage and movement of barrels or bottles while meeting safety standards. Moreover, the building's materials withstand the weight of the stored inventory and support the infrastructure necessary for the production and storage of the whiskey. The engineering aspects encompass a blend of functionality, aesthetics, and environmental considerations to preserve the quality of the whiskey within and the surrounding lands. Doherty Finegan Kelly (DFK) were commissioned to provide various consultancy roles on behalf of our client Bak Bulk Services Ltd for a phased development of whiskey maturation units to provide approximately 200,000 sq.ft. of new and refurbished units with associated site development and access works. The structure comprises a steel portal frame structural solution supported on R.C. pad foundations. Doherty Finegan Kelly also provided the consultancy roles required for the Fire Safety Certificate (FSC), the Disability Access Cert (DAC), the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and the Assigned Certifier (AC) for BCAR requirements, along with the various planning consultancy and statutory requirements.
